Pilot spray drift extension activities
Abstract
Best Practice Spray Application Project (CI 11705), funded by CRDC and SOS NSW and supported by CottonInfo and GRDC, supported cotton and grain growers and the broader farming community to strengthen best-practice spray application and reduce spray drift risk in the Macquarie Valley and southern New South Wales. Delivered by Spray Safe & Save P/L between May 2025 and February 2026, the pilot responded to drift incidents during the 2024–25 season by testing targeted, practical extension approaches and gathering feedback to inform future investment and activities.
Activities in the project included three Best Practice Spray Application “Spray Days” for growers, spray operators, contractors, agronomists and advisors (70 attendees across Burcher, Deniliquin and Finley), two advisor-focused workshops, and a summer spray-plan hotline offering one-on-one support. The project also published a suite of spray plans on the CottonInfo Weed Management hub to provide ongoing access to set-up examples across different machinery and application scenarios.
