In the last few years Australia's renewable energy sector has gone from niche to mainstream, resulting in cost reduction and a reduced need for government.

This project evaluated and demonstrated nitrogen fertiliser and irrigation management strategies, including variable rate fertiliser applications, rotational cropping with legumes and matching fertiliser rates to crop

The purpose of the workshop was to inform growers and advisors of Government energy incentives, extend advances in renewable technology and to promote energy efficient irrigation practices.

The cotton plant derived a large proportion of N nutrition from the soil organic pool (up to 70%) which is composed of N sourced from previous fertiliser application and the soil N pool that has built up over the mill

The majority of Australia’s cotton producing soil is grey or black vertosols which have high clay content and are naturally prone to waterlogging following heavy rain or surface irrigation.
