The impact of legumes after 21 years of rotation (11 legume crops) continue to positively impact soil health. The addition of a legume in a cotton rotation impacts all aspects of the cotton production.

High-yielding cotton can be grown without causing environmental damage. Most growers aim to do this but believe high levels of inputs are required, but this is not necessarily the case.

Several recent experiments at ACRI, Narrabri have illustrated the fate of N fertiliser in irrigated cotton cropping.

This project will assist the cotton industry to reduce its impact upon the environment and improve the health of its soil resource and achieve its aims to use fertiliser inputs more efficiently.

We measured the emission of nitrous oxide (N2O) from irrigated cotton that had been fertilised at four rates of N.
